Yugumbir State School has a recently refurbished library, complete with air-conditioning, an interactive whiteboard, an adjoining computer lab with 22 desktop computers and a data projector.
Students are assigned a borrowing number in the form of a barcode which remains the same for the complete duration of their schooling at Yugumbir. They are encouraged to borrow in class time as well as before and after school and during the lunch breaks.
8.10 am - 3.15 pm Monday to Friday
The library is open during most lunch breaks.
Upper school (Years 4 - 6) 1.00 pm - 1.30 pm
Lower school (Prep - Year 3) 11.15 pm - 11.40 am
All students are encouraged to borrow regularly and frequently. Students in the lower school are encouraged to use a cloth or plastic library bag to reduce the likelihood of damage to the books.
A library resource is borrowed for a maximum of two weeks. If a student needs extra time, the resource must be returned and renewed.
Borrowing limits depend on Year level
Prep and Year 1 maximum of 1 book
Year 2 maximum of 2 books
Year 3 maximum of 3 books
Year 4 maximum of 4 books
Year 5 maximum of 5 books
Year 6 maximum of 6 books
Students may borrow one resource in class borrowing time. Other resources students borrow in their own time. Students are encouraged to return books promptly so others may borrow them.
Lost or damaged library resources have to be paid for or replaced.
This event is held on a yearly basis to provide students and parents with the opportunity to purchase quality books at reasonable prices. It is also beneficial for the library as the school receives a commission on the total sale amount of books purchased. Further resources are then purchased for the library.
