Digital learning is an important part of contemporary schooling. The Australian Curriculum includes digital learning general capability across all Learning Areas, as well as Digital Technologies as a specific Learning Area.
Many schools implement one-to-one ICT device programs, where students use a dedicated electronic device to enhance their learning experiences.
Educational research has shown that schools that migrate to a BYOD model enjoy many benefits, including:
- improved student learning outcomes through the use of technology that facilitates learning in a contemporary educational setting
- the maturing of students as digital citizens who embrace digital opportunities and responsibilities
- the normalising of technology use between school, work and home
- greater autonomy in the classroom
- increased student motivation, confidence and engagement with learning because students are familiar with their devices
- greater opportunity for inter-school collaboration.
- development of technological skills for future living, studies and employability

Bring Your Own Device
Year 1 iPad Program 2025
We are excited to announce the introduction our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) iPad program to Year 1 in 2025. All students commencing Year 1 in 2025 are invited to join the program, whilst it is not compulsory it is highly desirable as iPad unlocks endless possibilities to collaborate, create and consume, putting students at the centre of their learning journey.

What will students need?
Generation 10 iPad. WiFi. 10.9". 64GB (or larger) Cellular iPads are NOT supported at school
Robust case and screen protector
Headphones – check for compatibility with iPad and comfortable for your child
Consider purchasing optional extra warranty from retailer or adding to insurance

Yr 4-6 BYOD Laptop Program
At Yugumbir, all Year 4, 5 and 6 students are invited to be part of our BYOD LAPTOP Program. Having consistent access to a learning device unlocks endless possibilities to collaborate, create and consume, putting students at the centre of their learning journey. Whilst it is not compulsory to participate in BYOD it is highly desire able as it unlocks digital learning at home and school.
What will students need?
On entry to Year 4 we recommend families buy a new laptop to support technology updates and upgrades that will happen in the coming years. If you have a device that is already part of our BYOD program you do NOT need to purchase a new device. Please ensure the device is in good working order and has a case and headphones, the 2025 Year 4-6 BYOD Buying Guide.pdf is provided.
Refurbished laptops or hand-me-downs from family are okay too. Just check the laptop specs with the Buying Guide above.
