Welcome to the Yugumbir State School community.

At Yugumbir State School, our Prep year is a new learning environment with exciting things to do and experience.  Your child will find friends to share with, and learn with teachers who care deeply about making their first year of school successful and happy. Learning involves developing a relationship of trust.  We aim to create an engaging, secure and supportive environment.

We are very proud of our school and look forward to having your child as part of our very special school community.

Our school office hours are 8.15 am to 4pm daily and our administration staff are happy to assist you with your enquiries.

Prep enrolments

Prep is the first year of school and provides the foundation for your child's education.

It is compulsory for Queensland children to undertake Prep prior to Year 1. Prep is a full-time program in primary schools and has a defined curriculum. Children attend Monday to Friday, from 9am to 3pm.

Children must be 5 years old by 30 June in the year they enrol.

Prospective parents of prep enrolments are asked to view the Department's prep ready reckoner calculator to determine when your child can commence their preparatory year.

Review the school's  enrolment management plan together with the catchment map, as these conditions affects your eligibility to enrol at our school.

Welcome to Prep enrolment Interviews

All enrolling Prep students and their parents/carers are required to participate in a Welcome to Prep enrolment interview. This is an opportunity for staff to meet your child, and for you to share information specifically about your child.

Prep interviews are held in the first few weeks of Term 4. Our enrolment officer will contact parents to arrange their child's Prep interview after enrolment has been confirmed.

Transitioning to Prep experience sessions

We look forward to meeting with you and your child at our Prep Enrolment interviews, early in Term 4.  We then look forward to meeting your child at our Prep Experience Sessions.

This year we are providing some key opportunities for your child to visit our school and participate in transition activities in a small group setting.

1. SOARing into Prep session

To help facilitate a smooth transition into their first year of school all confirmed Prep students are invited to participate in a 'SOARing into Prep' experience morning where they participate in school-based activities. The 'SOARing into Prep' experience morning is held late in Term 4.

Please contact Administration via email at Enrolments@yugumbirss.eq.edu.au or phone on (07) 3380 0333 for more information.

2. 'Move It Up' session

All confirmed Prep students are invited and encouraged to participate in the 'Move It Up' session in the second last week of the school year. At this session, confirmed Prep students participate in a session in their new Prep classroom, with their soon-to-be Prep classmates and meet their new Prep teacher (wherever possible).

All details about this session are emailed to parents prior to the event. During 'Move It Up', parents/carers of confirmed Prep students attend an important information session.

We look forward to meeting you at these sessions and assisting your child to transition into their new school environment at Yugumbir before their new school year.

Getting to know our new students and their families

It is now easier for new families to share their child's Kindergarten transition statement with the school.

The statements are another great way for our Prep teachers to get to know the children in their class before the first day, so they can prepare to welcome them and plan for their ongoing learning and development.

Kindergarten teachers, parents, carers and children develop transition statements together near the end of the kindy year. The transition statement is a snapshot of each child's strengths, interests and learning through kindergarten.

Families will receive their child's transition statement with the transition statement parent/carer consent form. By signing the form parents and carers can now give their consent for transition statements to be forwarded to a child's new school and outside school hours care service directly from kindergartens.

We will be in touch with local services to ensure our email address is known to the kindergarten teachers to receive the transition statements.

Watch this video for more information about Kindergarten transition statements.

For more information about the new transition statement consent form visit the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority website.

By working together we can support a great start to school for all Queensland children.

The Department of Education has lots of information and resources on The Early Years Count website to support you and your child during this major milestone.

Kindys can email transition statements directly to: Enrolments@yugumbirss@eq.edu.au
