Mentoring by Stevie O'Chin
I chose the colour green as it is the colour of life, its represents nature, renewal and energy. Green also associates with the meaning of growth, harmony, freshness and safety.
At Yugumbir State School we provide many
opportunities for our students to hold positions of leadership. Student Leadership
positions are held in high esteem by the all members of staff, their fellow
students, parents/carers and the wider school community.
The Student Leadership Handbook is used as
the guiding document for school community in this area. This document is reviewed annually and our
Student Leadership processes involve staff and members of the P&C Executive
to ensure school community support and participation.
The positions available for students in
Yr. 6 include:
·
School
Captains (4),
·
Indigenous
Captain (1),
·
Multi-Cultural
Captain (1),
·
Music
Captains (2) and
·
House
Captains (2 per House) - (Glider, Goanna, Kingfisher and Wallaroo Houses).
Student Leaders get the opportunity to
participate in a variety of events including leadership days with other schools
along with representing our school at formal events such as our local ANZAC Day
ceremonies.
In addition to this, students from each
class in Years 4 to 6 have the opportunity to be elected as a Student Councilor.
Student Leaders
All Year 6 students represent the school
as Student Leaders. They follow our school’s SOAR expectations and model
and demonstrate consistent behaviour and engagement with learning expected of
all students at Yugumbir State School.
